How are vitamins integral to your oral health?
Friday, November 18, 2016

Nutrition is a big part of the picture of your overall oral health. To have healthy teeth and gums, your body needs several vitamins and minerals. Of course, we all know your teeth love calcium! From a young age, we've been told to drink milk and eat cheese or yogurt for strong teeth. Your teeth also like potassium. Potassium helps prevent the blood from becoming too acidic; highly acidic blood can take away calcium from your teeth and bones. Look for bananas, tomatoes, or avocados to get your potassium intake up to par.

Did you also know that vitamin C can help prevent gingivitis? Mmm, pass the oranges. It's important to keep a balanced diet to promote the best overall health – including the health of your gums and teeth. If you have any questions, ask your hygienist at your next visit!
